Stage 3 of the Green Mountain Stage Race is often the decisive stage in the hunt for the yellow and polka dot jerseys. With 2 (3 for the Pro 1 & 2 Men) major climbs and a mountaintop finish the race can completely change atop App Gap prior to the Stage 4 crit.
A beautiful finish atop App Gap almost makes up for the brutal finishing climb with a final 500m that averages over 13%.
"The crowds were insane! The cheering was so loud and inspiring, I saw my boyfriend and Dad cheering on the side. In that instant I shifted down, stood up and was able to close the gap just before the finish and take the win!" Emma Langley P1/2/3 Women's Stage Winner
In the men's Pro/1 race a breakaway stuck for the first time in recent memory causing a total shake-up in the GC .
“When we got over Middlebury and still had a big gap, the guys in the break really committed and worked together flawlessy.” Barry Miller, Pro/1 Men – Stage Winner from Breakaway
For those that didn't enjoy the climbing as much as Ellen Tarquinio, tomorrow's crit should provide some fun and redemption in downtown Burlington.
"When we got to the base of App Gap, I rode off the front and settled into a suffer-pace to the top. I wish we could ride it again tomorrow" Ellen Tarquinio - Women's 3/4/5 Winner
Congrats to today's winners! We're looking forward to seeing everyone for more interviews and a final day of great racing action in Burlington. Come say hi at our tent!
